Mrs. Miller and her class were spending the day at an amusement park. Mrs. Miller pointed out that the first hill is always the tallest and that all the other hills after that are not as tall. She asked her students why they think this might be the case. Her students stated that the roller coaster does not have enough energy for bigger hills. When Mrs. Miller asked, “Where does the energy go?Emily: The energy that the roller coaster used to go up the hill disappears, so the roller coaster only has a little energy left.
Drew: The roller coaster used up all the energy that it was given from going up the first hill.
Pam: Some of the energy was changed into sound and heat and couldn’t be changed into motion.
Marcie: The energy was absorbed by the people in the roller coaster.
Cort: The energy was lost into the air.
John: The hills create less and less energy because they get smaller and smaller.
