WHY IS OXYGEN CLASSIFIED AS PURE SUBSTANCE AND AIR IS CLASSIFIED AS A MIXTURE?

CAN ANYBODY PLEASE HELP?

I'm pretty sure it is because oxygen is a single atom and air has multiple atoms

Air is a mixture of gases, 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen with traces of water vapor, carbon dioxide, argon, and various other components.

Air isn't exactly pure its got all the gases mixed together, but when we breathe oxygen is pure because nothing else can make oxygen, its just O.

Air can still be air if it doesn't have carbon dioxide in it. It can still be air without water vapor. Also oxygen is a pure element on the periodic table.
