Our solar system was formed around 4.5 billion years ago by a thick cloud of interstellar gas and dust. The cloud burst, probably because of the shock wave of a nearby exploded star called a supernova. When this cloud of dust exploded, a solar nebula a spinning, swirling disk of material was formed.
