Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) have been used in refrigeration for decades. They have low boiling points, nonflammable, chemically stable, and odorless. These properties make CFCs ideal for refrigeration. The problem is CFC compounds have been determined to break apart ozone in the stratosphere, allowing more UV radiation to reach the surface. Alternatives have been developed to help take the place of these CFCs such as HCFCs and HFCs. What property of HCFCs and HFCs make them viable alternatives to CFCs? A) they have shorter lifetimes B) they do not destroy any ozone C) less expensive to produce than CFCs D) they possibly contribute to global warming
