NASA has discovered a new planet in a distant solar system. On this new planet, they have found a mysterious green slime. The green slime only grows at certain temperatures and under certain moisture levels. Scientists found that if they put the green slime in a freezer, it would shrink itself to maintain an internal temperature of 75°. They also found that the green slime has specialized pumps to pump out water if it gets too wet. As of yet, none of the green slime samples have reproduced, but they do appear to be growing very slowly. When looking at the green slime under the microscope, scientists can see smaller structures filled with green slime and tiny pumps. 1. The green slime has many characteristics, which indicates that these are adaptations which were used by the slime to survive. It uses pump to expel out excess water, and in freezing it can shrink itself to maintain its temperature. Thus these characteristics indicates that the green slime is living.

2.  The green slime did not reproduced. This indicates that the slime was not living.  

3. The slime was living because it had characteristics which enable it to survive like other living organisms.
