A 35-year-old male, Fred Dead, comes into your emergency room seeking treatment. Before any doctor can examine him, and medical tests can be run, or any treatment can be administered, he dies in the emergency waiting room. You are the doctor that has been assigned to investigate his case. You perform a routine examination of the body but find nothing wrong or out of place. You think an autopsy should be performed to determine the man’s cause of death. Mr. Dead’s family is unsure of whether this is a necessary step and will not allow an autopsy to be performed. You must write a letter to the family explaining the rationale for an autopsy in which you try to convince them that an autopsy should be performed on Mr. Dead. In your letter, use appropriate evidence and scientific reasoning to support your argument.
