OSMOSIS:

Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration via a semipermeable membrane. Movement of water in osmosis is based on concentration gradient i.e. difference on concentration of solute inside and outside the cell. Water will move from a cell with more water or less salt concentration i.e. the internal cell with 0.8% salt concentration to a solution with less water or more salt concentration i.e. 20% salt concentration. This will cause the cell to lose water to its external solution, and, hence, shrink.
