What arguments have been made with respect to the campaign for “clean coal”?

Clean coal involves the use of technology to mitigate the health and environmental effects of burning of coal by capturing the emissions thereof. Since burning of coal (combustion) will normally release carbon or it's compounds; this is considered as a huge contributor to global warming, which is affecting lives on the planet. Thus, capturing combustion emissions such as carbon dioxide could help mitigate the effect of global warming.

Other gases emitted from the burning of coal are sulphur (IV) oxide, SO₂ and nitrogen oxides, which are huge causes of acid rain. SO₂ have been suggested to be removed from the atmosphere by flue-gas desulfurization while NO₂ has been suggested to be removed by selective catalytic reduction.

These arguments have been made to protect the earth and the lives that live on it since global warming and acid rain affect the lives of plants and animals while global warming affect the earth's climate.
