What is the important of having or giving first aid if an emergency situation occurs?

Its important because it prevents the person from going into more complicated and life threatening stages. For instance when a person is choking.. And no one in the room knows first aid to help the person then the person will die. Or let's say someone drowned and swallowed alot of water.. You need to have the basic skills to make the person breath again before the person is taken to the hospital or then it will be too late.
