Animals and plants are cooperatively interdependent because they mutually need each other for different essential aspects of life such as food, respiration, refuge, protection, propagation, etc. For example, plants produce oxygen which is used by animals for cellular respiration (obtaining energy from this process), since most animals are aerobic organisms. Similarly, animals release carbon dioxide (CO2) when they breathe out, and CO2 is used by plants to perform photosynthesis (i.e., to produce energy and carbohydrates from this process).
