Solution X was placed in a bag made of a selectively permeable dialysis membrane. The bag was securely tied, rinsed off with distilled water, and then suspended within a large
beaker of distilled water, as shown above. The contents of the bag and the beaker were
tested for presence of sugar, starch, lipid, and protein at the start of the experiment
and 24 hours later. The volume of the bag increased during this time. The results of
these tests are presented in the table below.
