RDS Interphase is broken up into three phases: G1 phase, S phase and G2 phase. The “G” stands for “growth,” and the "S" stands for “synthesis.” Early on in interphase, loosely packed, unwound chromosomes can be found inside the cell's nuclear membrane. Alongside the nucleus is a centriole. During Gı phase, the cell takes in nutrients and grows. S phase is next: the cell's DNA replicates, resulting in an X-shaped chromosome connected at a point called a centromere. Each half the X is called a sister chromatid. This X is still considered one chromosome, but now it has twice as much genetic material. At the same time, the centriole also replicates. The final phase of interphase is G2 phase. During G2 phase, the cell continues growing as it prepares for mitosis. ME ID Which of the following best describes the result of DNA replication? D Each chromosome has tripled in size and weight. B Each chromosome has four sister chromatids and four centrioles. 03 с Each chromosome has double its initial amount of genetic material. Each chromosome has outgrown its cell's nucleus and begins to expand.
