The graphic below is a DNA plasmid with three positions noted. Ori is the origin of replication, tet is a gene that gives resistance to the antibiotic tetracycline, and kan is a gene that gives resistance to the antibiotic kanamycin. This plasmid was placed into E. coli bacteria.
a) If this bacteria population were cultured(grown)in a solution containing kanamycin, what would be the result? Why?
b) Scientists wished to utilize PCR to make copies of the tetracycline gene on the plasmid, however it was noted that the results always failed. It was determined that a primer used for PCR is made incorrectly. Orthographic, DRAW where the primer(s) SHOULD have been located, and draw an "X" where the incorrect primer was likely located.
