Means counting the number of colonies of bacteria found in
a liquid after it was injected with sterile (clean) inoculum.
To grow bacteria, we are studying without contaminating it
with other living organisms.
A substance injected into the body to increase the body's
resistance to a disease.
Growing micro-organisms example bacteria for scientific study or
medicinal use.
Kept warm to allow for growth.
Inoculum

Incubated
An investigation was set up by Gr.11 learners to evaluate the effectiveness of
different antibiotics in inhibiting (preventing) bacterial growth.
The procedure was as follows:
e
A pour plate culture of the bacterium Bacillus subtilis was prepared according to
the aseptic method, using nutrient agar as the growth medium.
A fixed amount of inoculum is placed in the centre of a sterile petri dish.
A ring of eight discs (1 to 8) was then placed on the inoculated culture,
Each of the discs 2 to 8 contained a different antibiotic.
Disc 1 had no antibiotic.
The plate was incubated for 48 hours at 35°C.
The diagram below shows the results obtained after the incubation period. Draw a bar graph to represent the total number of cases and the total number of deaths per month
