In humans, blood plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis by performing many functions. Blood supplies oxygen, nutrients to the tissues and removes waste such as carbon dioxide, urea and lactic acid from cells. It circulates chemical messenger such as hormones to the target cells. It regulates body pH, body temperature and osmotic pressure of the blood.
