The process by which water is brought to an area for use in growing crops is called irrigation.

Irrigation is the process of artificial application of the desired amounts of water to the growing crops at required intervals. It helps to grow agricultural crops, maintenance of landscape, re-vegetation of disturbed and dry soil and during low rainfall.  

Effective irrigation will effect the growth process in the crops from seedbed preparation, seed germination, growth of roots, utilization of nutrients, growth of plants, yield and quality of crops.
