task description :

i would like you to create a letter or email written in to the problem page of a teen magazine or website.
you should write:
1. a letter from a teenager with a worry or concern about puberty
2. a reply to that teenager from an expert ensuring them that what they are going through is normal.
it is up to you to pick the problem!

My name is blank, and I am 13 years old. I had my first period a year ago and since then puberty has taken a toil on my life. My days have been filled with pain and confusion about my body. But recently something that doesn't normally has been happening. When I have my period I get these terrible bloody cramps that leave me bending over in pain, and unable to get out of bed. On those days my mom lets me sit in a hot bath and drink warm liquids. But still I don't know why this is happening. Can you give me good advice?

I am really happy that you chose to write to this particular magazine. There are many other magazines or places you could have went for to get advice, but the fact you chose us means alot. First , I would like to wish you good luck during this stage of your life ( puberty) because I know it will be one of change, excitement, but also confusion. Don't panic! Puberty is normal for girls and boys your age. Though boys don't get periods like girls . Secondly I would like to applaud you on being curious and paying attention to the changes of your body because it shows you want to be aware of how you are growing. Now to answer your question- cramps are painful symptoms of periods. This means that they come with the period process. Usually when you start cramping you can expect your period. So don't think that you are the only girl that is experiencing cramping, you are never alone. Severe cramping like you are expericing can happen but you have many options, plus the ones you are already using. You can take medicine ( pills or liquid) for the pain that has to be prescribed by a doctor or you can find certain products such as hot pads to use at your local grocery store.
