What marks the boundary between the mesozoic and the cenozoic (called the k-t boundary)?

The Cretaceous mass elimination denotes the limit between the Mesozoic and Cenozoic times. It was a mass termination of some seventy-five percent of the plant and creature species on Earth that happened over a topographically brief timeframe for more than 66 million years.
