What must first occur for transcription to begin

In order to start the process of transcription, the binding of the RNA polymerase enzyme takes place with the promoter. RNA polymerase refers to an enzyme, which produces copies of RNA by utilizing DNA strand as the template.  

Promoter refers to the sequence of DNA found in close proximity to the upstream of the initiation site. The promoter functions as the binding site for the RNA polymerase to initiate the procedure of transcription. The promoter is the consensus sequences, which are identified by the RNA polymerase succeeded by its attachment and initiation of RNA synthesis.
