Genetic engineering is a boon for production of pharmaceuticals and edible vaccines, drought and salinity tolerance in crops.  Plants were introduced to toxins derived from pests in their genome which when consumed by other pests results in their mortality therefore, acts as a mode of protection. Some pests has undergone adaptations against these pesticides which are induced in the genome of plants.This is the disadvantage of genetic engineering.

Also, genetically modified pesticides (herbicides) are used to protect the crop and eradicate pests. Pests can develop résistance against genetically modified pesticides and reduced effectiveness. This makes the development of more pest and affects the crop potentially that create future health problems.
