How does ice cause weathering? Water seeps into cracks and rocks and freezes. As it melts and refreezes multiple times, the ice will split the rock into pieces.

Water seeps into cracks in rocks and works to dissolve the rock from the inside out.

Water freezes the outside of the rocks. Then when something hits the rock, it splits into more pieces.

Ice eats away at the rocks.
