How is carbon transferred to the soil ?

I'm not 100% sure but my beat bet is: Carbon moves from plants and animals to soils

On grazed land, cattle trample some of the plants into the soil increasing carbon content. In forested areas, dead plant material is incorporated into the soil by worms and other soil organisms. On cropped land, it doesn't very much, causing soil degradation.
