Today's lab: Today you will perform an activity with a
predicted outcome, document the observed outcome, and
then use the X² test to assess if any deviation from the
expected is a significant deviation. You will need a
standard 6 sided game die to complete this lab. If you do
not have a die you may use this online die roll simulator:
http://www. roll-dice-online. com/. Be sure to choose 6
sides, 1 die to roll, and 60 rolls. If you use this simulator,
you need to record the absolute frequency of each of the six
sides (ignore the average). Fill out the worksheet below
and be sure to turn in your completed worksheet as the
lab 1 assignment no later than 11:59 PM on the due date
listed in the syllabus. You may type directly on to this
document or write your answers in by hand and then scan
the document. You may need additional space beyond what
is below.
1. If you were to roll a standard 6 sided game die 60
times, approximately how many times would you
expect to roll each of the six faces?
2. What is your hypothesis about the die relative to the
outcome of a roll? MAKE SURE YOUR
HYPOTHESIS IS EASILY TESTABLE AND
REFUTABLE.
3. Roll one die 60 times and record the absolute
frequency you observe for each of the six sides. Test
your null hypothesis using a X2 test to compare what
you observed with what you expected to observe, and
discuss the interpretation of your results.
- Record your findings including the observed
absolute frequency of all of your rolls, expected
absolute frequency of all your rolls, test statistic
calculations, degrees of freedom, and the
associated p-value. Did you reject or support
your hypothesis?
