phenotype is the physical make up of an organism. it is controlled by alleles found in the cells of an organism. dominant alleles overshadow the recessive alleles. the allele for tallness for example, is dominant to that for shortness. since alleles occur in pairs, this plant which is tall can either be genotype TT or Tt , two dominant alleles or one dominant allele and the recessive allele which overpowers the recessive allele hence making the plant appear tall. genotype is the genetic make up of an organism. this determines how an organism appears to look externally.

hence genotype determines phenotype.
