During the rainy season, rivers may overflow their banks, flooding the area and causing great damage. What is one thing people can do to help reduce the impact of flooding and subsequent erosion?

Depends. There are ways you could drain the water, but I think a more practical answer would be that a lot of smaller places and villages in rainier areas like to build their houses on ‘stilts.’ It rises the houses up enough so water doesn’t get inside, and they’re strong enough to not collapse.
