How was Southern Europe involved in WWII?

World War II began in Europe on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. Great Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany on September 3. World War II began when Hitler's Nazi Germany attacked Poland. Germany had allies such as Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania. These European countries were part of the Axis Powers. The countries that fought against Germany and the Axis Powers in Europe were called the Allied Powers.

Southern Europe consists of countries in the south of Europe. Southern Europe was home to 1/3 of the Axis in world war 2. Some smaller axis powered countries in Southern Europe was Greece. (The Axis was Japan, Germany and Italy.) Facist Itaily used both Albania and Croatia as its protectorate or puppet state. Andorra remined neutral, however it was used as a smuggling route from Spain into France.
