Proteins are chains of amino acid, these amino acids has to be broken down into individuals before getting absorbed by the body.

In the digestion of proteins, after protein formed a food bolus with other undigested nutrients, they came to the stomach.
The stomach secretes an enzyme called pepsin, which cut up protein into small polypeptides.

The digestion hasn't end yet. After that, they came to the duodenum. Enzyme protease is secreted. The polypeptides can be broken down into amino acid blocks.

Finally in the ileum, these amino acids can be absorbed and assimilated by the body for its uses!
