Why do you think antarctica, greenland, and the arctic ocean lack chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is the substance that helps the plant to absorb light energy to make their food. It is mainly presented in the leaves of green plants and algae.  

Regions like Antartica, Greenland and arctic oceans lack chlorophyll because they have a very negligible amount of plants and algae due to very harsh climate. Most of the time in a year these regions remain frozen which does not allow the growth of vascular plants.

So non-vascular plants like liverworts, dwarf herbs, shrubs, lichens, mosses are present which do not require root system for support and nutrient supply.

Therefore due to the very cold environment and frozen soil cholorophyll containing plants and algae are absent so Antarctica, Greenland, and the Arctic Ocean lack chlorophyll.
