Wax melting due to heat is the result of a stabilized combustion. Wax is composed mainly of hydrocarbon atoms. The heat that is applied turns the wax into liquid form and is vaporized eventually. Through this process hydrocarbons start to break down into molecules of hydrogen and carbon. These broken down molecules are drawn up into the flame where they start to react with oxygen from the air. As a result, heat, light, water vapor, and carbon dioxide are produced.
