What would happen if the bases in dna strands were connected by a bond other than a hydrogen bond? dna polymerase would not be able to form complimentary strands of dna. each nitrogenous base would be able to form a base pair with any of the other bases. it would be more difficult for dna to unzip since it would require more energy to break the bonds. the dna molecule would be unstable because the two strands would separate more easily.
