The autonomic nervous system of the human body has two divisions: The sympathetic and Parasympathetic divisions.

These two divisions of the autonomous nervous system have antagonistic effects on the body organs. Sympathetic division innervates in case of emergency.

It performs for a "fight or flight" response. In such a situation, the Sympathetic nervous system speeds up the heart, increases blood pressure, increases sweat glands secretion, makes more glucose available in the blood for the body's energy and as such. It dilates pupil focusing for distant vision.

Whereas, Parasympathetic nervous system relaxes the body. It innervates for the resting of the body and responds to the rest and digest mechanism. The parasympathetic nervous system slows down the heart rate and activates the gut for digestion. It contracts pupils for focusing on near vision.

Therefore, the two examples of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are fight or flight reactions.
