Morphology refers to the branch of biology which deals with the study of the structure and the structural features of the organisms. It includes the study of the shape, size, colour, pattern and other physical features of an organism. The word morphology is derived from the two greek words "morphe" meaning form and "logos" meaning study. It can be further classified into comparitive morphology, gross morphology and molecular morphology.

The study of the outward appearance of an organism is referred to as external morphology and the study of the internal details of the organism and its structures is referred to as internal morphology or anatomy. It helps in better understanding at the cellular level of an organism revealing both the macroscopic or the gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy.
