A small airline. Ivy Air, flies between three cities: Ithaca, Newark, and Boston. They offer several flights but, for this problem, let us focus on the Friday afternoon flight that departs from Ithaca, stops in Newark, and continues to Boston. There are three types of passengers:

(a) Those traveling from Ithaca to Newark.
(b) Those traveling from Newark to Boston.
(c) Those traveling from Ithaca to Boston.

The aircraft is a small commuter plane that seats 30 passengers. The airline offers three fare classes:

(a) Y class: full coach.
(b) B class: nonrefundable.
(c) M class: nonrefundable, 3-week advanced purchase. Ticket prices, which are largely determined by external influences (i. e., competitors), have been set and advertised as follows: Based on past experience, demand forecasters at Ivy Air have determined the following upper bounds on the number of potential customers in each of the nine possible origin-destination/fare-class combinations: The goal is to decide how many tickets from each of the nine origin/destination/fare-class combinations to sell. The constraints are that the plane cannot be overbooked on either of the two legs of the flight and that the number of tickets made available cannot exceed the forecasted maximum demand. The objective is to maximize the revenue. Formulate this problem as optimization problem.

Suppose a firm faces a fixed price of output, 푝푝= 1200. the firm hires workers from a union at a daily wage, ν‘€ν‘€, to produce output according to the production function ν‘žν‘ž= 2퐸퐸12. there are 225 workers in the union. any union worker who does not work for this firm is guaranteed to find nonunion employment at a wage of $96 per day. a.what is the firm’s labor demand function? b.if the firm is allowed to choose ν‘€ν‘€, but then the union decides how many workers to provide (up to 225) at that wage, what wage will the firm set? how many workers will the union provide? what is the firm’s output and profit? what is the total income of the 225 union workers? c.now suppose that the union sets the wage, but the firm decides how many workers to hire at that wage (up to 225). what wage will the union set to maximize the total income of all 225 workers? how many workers will the firm hire? what is the firm’s output and profit? what is the total income of the 225 union workers? [hint: to maximize total income of union, take the first order condition with respect to w and set equal to 0.]
