Imagine you are a marketer at a new company specializing in “green burials.” This is a fairly new trend in the funeral industry, where ecologically minded people choose funeral services in which the body remains untreated with chemicals and is buried without a casket in a burial ground that is more like a nature preserve. You have been asked to write two promotions—one geared at baby boomers and the other geared at the newest generation, Generation Z. The first group is at least 50, with many in the group much older than that. The second group is under 30. Think about how you would gear the different promotions and what benefits of green burial you would tout to each. Write a memo to your boss explaining the direction you plan to take in writing each promotion. Specifically say what benefits you will highlight in each promotion and how you expect to appeal to the two widely different demographics. Explain to your boss why it’s important to segment these two groups for the purposes of appealing to their desires and needs, which is based on age. At the same time, use behavior segmentation to guide your thinking in how best to appeal to each group. You may also use the other methods of segmentation. Make sure that you have used proper memo format before submitting.
