Barry, a Texas Crude Company engineer who did not take Engineering Economy while studying at Tech, recommended that Texas Crude purchase a special tool to reduce the cost of pumping oil out of the bayous of St. Martin Parish. As a result of Barry's recommendation, Texas Crude purchased the tool for $300,000 on January 1, 2011. By January 1, 2012, the tool had saved a total of $50,000 and went on line full time. After going on line full time, the tool saved Texas Crude $90,000 each year for the next three years and Barry was happy. However, Barry recommended the "el-cheapo" model (Barry is a tightwad), and it started breaking down during the early part of year five, and ended up by saving only $40,000 during year five. It was scrapped as being unusable at the end of year five, and had a $10,000 salvage value. Barry told his boss that his recommendation had been correct, as it had saved Texas Crude $70,000 and that is a savings of 23.3%. Using IRR evaluate the effectiveness of the tool and the correctness of Barry's recommendation. Use a MARR (minimum acceptable rate of return) of 14%.

Miko willingly admits that she is not an accountant by training. she is concerned that her balance sheet might not be correct. she has provided you with the following additional information. 1. the boat actually belongs to miko, not to skysong, inc.. however, because she thinks she might take customers out on the boat occasionally, she decided to list it as an asset of the company. to be consistent, she also listed as a liability of the corporation her personal loan that she took out at the bank to buy the boat. 2. the inventory was originally purchased for $27,500, but due to a surge in demand miko now thinks she could sell it for $39,600. she thought it would be best to record it at $39,600. 3. included in the accounts receivable balance is $11,000 that miko loaned to her brother 5 years ago. miko included this in the receivables of skysong, inc. so she wouldn’t forget that her brother owes her money. (b) provide a corrected balance sheet for skysong, inc.. (hint: to get the balance sheet to balance, adjust stockholders’ equity.) (list assets in order of liquidity.)
