An office supply store is trying to develop of schedule for a typical business 8am-5pm day. The business is not seasonal, and each day's volume is similar, so the schedule can be applied to every day they are open. The have determined that the number of employees needed for each hour they are open are as follows: 8a-9a=6; 9a-10a=4; 10a-11a=4; 11a-12p=9; 12p-1p=11; 1p-2p=9; 2p-3p=6; 3p-4p=5; 4p-5p=5. Their company policy is that full-time workers (8a-5p) will take a lunch break at 11:00 for one hour. All other employees must work four hour shifts. The part-time shifts then are: 8a-12p, 9a-1p, 10a-2p, 11a-3p, 12p-4p, and 1p-5p. The owners do not want to hire any more people than is necessary. Determine the how many of each type of shift need to be hired to minimize the number of employees.
