Instructions In this project you will write a research paper on the career assigned to you by your instructor. The purpose of the project is to provide you guidance and assessment of your experience researching careers.

You are encouraged to use a variety of career research resources. You are required to use at least one Internet resource. Two excellent Internet sources are www. bls. gov and http://learnmoreindiana. org.

Other career research resources may include: books, periodicals, newspapers, library reference materials, exploratory interviews, observation, audiovisuals (videos/DVDs), etc.

Once your instructor has assigned the career you are to research, follow the outline below to direct your research and write your paper. (The outline is created to provide an area to takes notes while researching if you choose.)

Each topic that you must address in your research paper is numbered and bolded. Carefully read the details included with each topic. Your research paper will be assessed in part on the inclusion of every required element found in the topic details.

Your research paper must be typewritten using 12-point, Times New Roman font. All page margins must be set at 1 inch (top, bottom, left, and right). Research text must be double spaced.

Write using complete sentences. Be mindful to use proper grammar, correct spelling, and punctuation. This is an academic research paper; the use of slang language should be avoided.

#1 Title page. Your research paper must include a title page. Include the career title, your name, and the date on separate lines centered both vertically and horizontally on the page.

#2 Introduction. Introduce the career providing a description of the career being researched.

#3 Tasks. Describe five tasks performed in this career.

#4 Skills. Describe five skills employees must have to perform the tasks of this career.

#5 High school preparatory courses. Describe five high school courses that might prepare you for employment in this career.

#6 Educational preparation Describe any or all education beyond high school graduation required to acquire this career.

#7 Tools. Describe five tools employees use while performing the tasks of this career.

#8 Employment attire. Describe how employees would dress when employed in this career, including any required safety clothing even if the safety equipment is worn only occasionally.

#9 Employment hazards. Describe any potential workplace hazards in this career.

#10 Personal aptitudes. Describe five personal aptitudes that would be beneficial to be employed in this career.

#11 Workplace environment. Describe the workplace environment typical for this career. Include employment-related travel if required in this career.

#12 Salary and employment statistics. Report estimated annual salary, number of individuals employed in this career in 2008, and projected employment in this career for 2018.

#13 Closing statement. Include information that you discovered while researching the career. Identify both positive and challenging characteristics of the career.
