A Major Arab Company has recently decided to appoint a manager for one of its branches in the Gulf region. The company received a large number of CVs and decided to interview several candidates. Chirine, was among the people who were interviewed.
After several interviews, the HR Manager, Bassam, contacted her to inform her that he is interested in hiring her. When she learned this, Chirine decided to resign from her present job. When Chirine announced the news to her husband, he was pleased, but advised her not to resign unless she had a written offer signed by the new company.
During this period, political tension was rising between some Arab countries and Iran. When Chirine called Bassem to ask about signing the contract, his reaction was surprising. His first question to Chirine was: “Are you Shi’ite or Sunni? We are only hiring from one confession.” Chirine felt deceived and refused to answer his question.
