You have been hired to do consulting work by the CEO of Pet Plus, a company that produces and sells pet food and supplies. The CEO has asked you to provide advice to him on his expansion plans. Pet Plus currently operates in Canada – but is thinking about expanding outside of Canada. The CEO favours either China, India, Russia. He has asked you to write a memo to him providing him with: a summary of things he should consider if he were to expand; a recommendation on where to expand. Additional background information is provided below. Please post your memo on the discussion board. Your memo should not exceed 500 words (2 pages). Background: Pet Plus manufacturers dog food and supplies in Markham, Ontario. It sells this material nationally out of its corporate-owned retail chain. It purchases some dog food and supplies from other manufacturers (about 50% of what it sells). While the margins on the material it purchases and re-sells are not as great as the margins on the material it produces in house, the greater variety of products more than offsets any negative factors related to having to purchase externally. The company has been around for about 10 years – struggling for the first three, then growing very well over the last 7. It now earns a net profit of $10M a year on total sales of $50M.
