What is one way to test whether an unknown solution is acidic or basic

A solution's pH will be a number between 0 and 14. A solution with a pH of 7 is classified as neutral. If the pH is lower than 7, the solution is acidic. When pH is higher than 7, the solution is basic. These numbers describe the concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution and increase on a negative logarithmic scale. For example, If Solution A has a pH of 3 and Solution B has a pH of 1, then Solution B has 100 times as many hydrogen ions than A and is therefore 100 times more acidic.

this is chemical change (chemical reaction), because two new substances are formed (metalig liquid and gas), the atoms are rearranged and the reaction is followed by an energy change.

chemical decomposition (analysis) is the separation of a single chemical compound into its two or more elemental parts or to simpler compounds.  

chemical decomposition is opposite of chemical synthesis.

this reaction is of the spontaneous decomposition of hydrogen peroxide down into water and oxygen.

add 2 molecules of hydrogen peroxide and 2 molecules of water. since oxygen is naturally diatomic, the total number of atoms of each element is now the same on both sides of the equation so it is balanced.
