3. now you would like to know whether this protein contains a homeodomain, so you decide to compare this protein sequence to other fly proteins that are known to contain homeodomains. shown below is an “alignment” of 3 different drosophila homeotic proteins (only the homeodomain region within the larger protein is aligned). amino acids are highlighted in black if they are identical or are nearly identical based on their chemistry (for example r-arginine and k-lysine are both positively charged) between the three proteins and green bars show a low-resolution graph of sequence identity across the proteins (tall bars show higher identity). try to align your translated sequence to the ones above (you can ‘slide’ your sequence to optimize alignment, but try not to introduce any gaps in it). underline in your protein sequence from gene q amino acids that are shared with the 3 homeobox proteins ubx, abd-a and dll (note that amino acids must be in the proper position with respect to each other to be considered conserved). how many amino acids do you find that are the same in all 4?
