Two separate reactors of equal volume and packing connected in parallel were used to carry out a mass-transfer-limited reaction over a solid catalyst with negligible effect of temperature and pressure on the mass transfer. the flow rate was divided equally to these reactors to maintain negligible pressure drop in the reactors. with this arrangement, an overall conversion of 76% was achieved. the production manager (pm) decided to couple the same two reactors in series in order to enhance the overall conversion. as a process engineer contacted to comment on the decision, do you think the decision of the pm will achieve a higher conversion?
