There are many forms of energy: mechanical, including sound, electrical, thermal, electromagnetic, chemical, heat and nuclear. energy cannot be created or destroyed. but energy can change form and we call that energy transformation. there are many different types of energy in our life: electrical, sound, chemical, and solar, are just a few. everyday, we experience energy transformations. for example, you are moving around, talking, and reading this because the chemical energy of your food was transformed into useful energy that you ned to accomplish tasks. imagine you went outside at night using the flashlight in picture iii: that would be another energy transformation. the battery has chemical energy and it is transformed into electric energy and then light energy. another result of using the flashlight would be the transformation of some of the energy into heat. now you are outside and your parents have built the campfire in picture i. the logs are burning; that is an energy transformation too. chemical energy is being transformed into heat and light energy. energy transformations: they are all around us!

can you identify the energy transformations taking place?

in picture iv, electrical energy is being transformed into light, sound, and heat energies.
sally's group made this electromagnet using a battery and some wire. the energy transformation is chemical - electrical - magnetic.
in the alarm clock energy is transformed. it is time to get up! the alarm clock goes off. electrical energy is transformed into light energy.
simon's family has installed solar panels, like the panels seen here, on the roof of their house to collect sunlight and run all the appliances and lights in the house. in this case, solar energy is transformed into mechanical energy.
maddie and juan's were given to task of trying to make s'mores using the sun! they built this oven using a box and aluminum foil. in this case, solar energy was transformed into heat energy.

Imagine if during the cathode ray experiment, the size of the particles of the ray was the same as the size of the atom forming the cathode. which other model or scientific observation would have also been supported? 1. this would support dalton's postulates that proposed the atoms are indivisible because no small particles are involved. 2. this would support bohr's prediction about electrons moving in orbits having specific energy. 3. this would support bohr's prediction about electrons being randomly scattered around the nucleus in the atom. 4. this would support dalton's postulates that proposed that atoms combine in fixed whole number ratios to form compounds.
