The VSEPR AX_3 Family (sp^2 orbital hybridization) The VSEPR AX_3 class (the first member of the AX_3 family) BF_3 Experimentally it is determined that BF_3 is a trigonal planar molecule with all B-F bonds identical, and all F-B-F angles equal to 120 degree. Draw the Lewis structure for the BF_3 molecule: Construct a model of the sp^2 hybrid orbitals, arranging them as shown below: Make a model of BF_3 by inserting three gray connectors into the set of three holes on a (brown) atom center so that they lie on a plane and are 120 degree apart. Connect three white balls, representing fluorine atoms, to the three gray connectors inserted in the (brown) atom center. As before, each connector represents a bonding pair of electrons, with one of the electrons in each bond coming from the boron atom and the other coming from a fluorine atom. Now fill in the report table for BF_3.

In a laboratory experiment, a fermenting aqueous solution of glucose and yeast produces carbon dioxide gas and ethanol. the solution was heated by burning natural gas in a bunsen burner to distill the ethanol that formed in the flask. during the distillation, the ethanol evaporated and then condensed in the receiving flask. the flame of the burner was kept too close to the bottom of the flask and some of the glucose decomposed into a black carbon deposit on the inside of the flask. during this experiment the following changes occurred. which of these changes involved a physical change and not a chemical change? check all that apply. 1-condensation of ethanol 2-evaporation of ethanol 3- formation of carbon dioxide gas from glucose burning of natural gas 4-formation of ethanol from glucose by yeast 5-formation of a carbon deposit inside the flask
