The step shown in the diagram is of uncoating phase of viral replication.

In the uncoating phase of replication of virus the protein coat or capsid is removed by the enzymatic activity of the virus or can be by host too. This shedding of coat causes nucleic acid of virus to be released into the host cell. The nucleic acid or genetic material or genomic DNA is taken to nucleus where the next step is replication.

Sometimes the entire nucleocapsid is targeted to nucleus and uncoating takes place there only.
