Students in science class were conducting solubility experiments using four
salts and water. Students hypothesized that increasing the water temperature
would increase suability of the four salts. At the conclusion of all the trials,
they constructed this graph showing the maximum solubility of the four salts,
in grams per 100 milliliters of water (g/100 mL) at various temperatures. Marie
and Calvin questioned the results. They tried to dissolve 45 grams of NaCl in
100 grams of water at 80°C. Only 40 grams dissolved; 5 grams settled at the
bottom of the beaker. Calvin suggested that they heat the water above boiling,
100°C. Predict the results of increasing the water temperature in this trial.
