The reaction between ethanol and butanoic acid results in the dehydration with the release of water molecule. The compounds have been condensed together with the formation of ester for RCOOR structure.

The formed ester has R group as ethyl group with another R group being methyl group resulting in the formation of ethyl ethanoate.

It has been an ester with the presence of central COO group. The reaction has been depicted in the image attached.

The name of the formed ester has been ethyl ethanoate.
