Extrusive, or volcanic, igneous rocks are made when a molten hot rock that cools and solidifies. There are three main types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Each of these rocks is formed by physical changes—such as melting, cooling, eroding, compacting, or deforming—that are part of the rock cycle.

Over many thousands of years, energy from the Sun moves the wind and water at the Earth's surface with sufficient force to break rocks apart into sand and different types of powder. Other times magma moves to the Earth's surface and erupts from a volcano.

Explanation:

Moon rock contains significantly less iron than earth's core. The Hartman Giant-Impact Hypothesis suggests that the moon was formed from a collision of early earth and a mars-sized planet spewing large quantities of debris into space. This debris aggregated into what is the moon orbiting present earth. Comparison of earth's core iron content and the moon's iron content shows the moon having much less iron than the core of earth. Since the moon was formed from surface material of the earth it is assumed the surface iron content is much less than the core iron content. Such is confirmed by C.C. Patterson studies ~1953 which dated the earth's age at ~ 4.5 Billion Yrs old.
