In a mixture, each constituent retains its chemical properties i.e. the chemical properties of none of the substances in a mixture is altered. This serves as the basis for the physical separation of a mixture.

One example of mixture has been given in this question i.e salt and sugar combined together in a bowl. This represent a mixture because the sugar is not chemically combined to the salt, hence, each can easily be separated. This is the same for any other mixtire. More examples include:
