When baking soda (NaHCO3) and vinegar (HC2H3O2) react, one of the products is carbonic acid (H2CO3). Carbonic acid rapidly decomposes into carbon dioxide gas (CO2) and water (H2O), which are two of the compounds found in volcanic gas. In this experiment, you’ll measure how these gases alter temperature. Before starting the experiment, predict how you think the presence of CO2 and H2O will affect temperature. Explain your reasoning.
